Maaveerar Naal commemorated across the USA

Commemorative events were held in California and North Carolina in the USA last week to mark Maaveerar Naal. 

Maaveerar Naal - or Great Heroes' Day - is observed on November 27 annually by the Tamil nation to remember the sacrifices of the Tamils who laid down their lives int he armed struggle.

Tamils gather in New Zealand to observe Maaveerar Naal

Tamils gathered in Auckland, New Zealand to mark Maaveerar Naal 2025. 

The event began with the hoisting of the New Zealand flag and the Tamil Eelam flag which was hoisted by Mrs Nadarasa Wigneswary, the sister of two fallen LTTE cadres. 

Attendees laid flowers on symbolic gravestones, designed to resemble those that once stood at the cemeteries built by the LTTE in the North-East.

Tamils mark Maaveerar Naal in Italy

Maaveerar Naal - or Great Heroes' Day - was commemorated by Tamils in Palermo, Italy, in honour of the fighters who sacrificed their lives in the armed struggle for liberation. 

The remembrance ceremony began with the lighting of lamps, the hoisting of the Tamil Eelam national flag and the Italian national flag. A flower garland was placed over a picture of Lt. Shankar, the first cadre to die in combat. 

Tamils in Switzerland commemorate Maaveerar Naal

Thousands of Tamils gathered at Messe Basel in Switzerland to mark Maaveerar Naal 2025.

The remembrance event began with the hoisting of the Tamil Eelam flag and the lighting of the memorial lamp. 

Flowers were laid in front of the portraits of 1,700 fallen cadres that were on display. The event also featured a series of dance, theatrical and musical performances portraying the Tamil struggle for liberation and paying tribute to those who lost their lives.
