Sri Lankan Army and Canadian charity hand out ‘gifts’ to children in Batticaloa and Amparai

The Sri Lankan Army partnered with Sleeping Children Around the World (SCAW) of Canada to hand out “gifts” to schoolchildren in Batticaloa and Amparai last week, declared an official military website.

In a series of military ceremonies over the last week, clothes, school bags and bed linen were handed out to school children at different locations across the East.

“The entire programme was conducted in Wandaramunai, Vellaveli in Batticaloa district under 23 Div and Manthottam, Sammanthurai, Namalthalawa, and Galapitagala, in Ampara district under 24 Div,” said the Sri Lankan military which co-ordinated the ceremonies.

Sri Lankan troops were also present at the ceremonies which took place at schools and community centres.

SCAW did not mention any military assitance it recieved in its blog posts of the trip here.
