Sri Lanka’s Civil Aviation Authority has told airlines coming to the island to either ensure all flights arrive with the required fuel they need to leave or fill up elsewhere, as fuel shortages amidst an economic crisis wreaks havoc on the island.
“We’ve asked airlines to carry the required fuel while operating to Sri Lanka, because there is a shortage of aviation fuel, and we have to manage the situation,” Rayhan Wanniappa, a director of Sri Lanka’s Civil Aviation Authority, told Bloomberg this week.
“Airlines are bringing certain additional supplies, while we are also providing from our stocks.”
Even SriLankan Airlines is refuelling in Chennai in Tamil Nadu or Dubai instead of Colombo, Bloomberg reported.
Other airlines have meanwhile ensuring they are uplifting additional fuel if flying to Colombo.
