Mark Carney has led the Liberal Party to victory in the 2025 Canadian federal election, with results announced this morning, securing a mandate to govern after months of political uncertainty.

Speaking as results were announced, Carney said that the "old relationship of integration with the US is now over," after US President Donald Trump loomed large across the whole campaign. "We are over the shock of the American betrayal, we have to take care of each other," Carney added.
