Members of the US Congress mark Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day

Various members of Congress in the United States marked Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day on the social media platform 'X' today. Renewed calls for justice, accountability, and recognition were made, with calls for involvement from the international community and emphasis on Tamil self-determination.

Congresswoman Summer Lee, representative for Pennsylvania's 12th Congressional District, issued the following statement: 

Tamils in Italy commemorate Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day

The Tamil genocide was commemorated by Tamils in Palermo, Italy, over the weekend. 

A lamp was lit and flowers were laid at a makeshift monument at Giardino dei Giusti before Mullivaikkal kanji was served.

The 16th annual commemoration of Tamil Genocide Day was held on 18 May 2025 at the Fickling Convention Centre in Three Kings, Auckland, where hundreds gathered to honour the memory of those killed in the Mullivaikkal massacre and to reaffirm calls for justice and accountability.

Tamils in Australia demand accountability and justice on Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day

Tamils in Australia commemorated the Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day with a remembrance event in Sydney. 

300 Tamils gathered outside Sydney Town Hall to demand accountability and justice for the massacres at Mullivaikkal. 

"We came together not just to mourn, but to resist, to remember, and to demand justice," the Tamil Refugee Council said. 

Ottawa commemorates Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day

The Tamil community in Ottawa gathered on May 18th to commemorate Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day in an event jointly organised by the Ottawa Tamil Association, National Capital Region Tamil Association, Ottawa Tamil Academy of Culture and Technology, Ottawa Tamil Seniors Association, and Tamil Genocide Memorial.

London 

Thousands of Tamils gathered at Parliament Square to remember the victims of the Tamil genocide.

In April 2009, thousands of British Tamils occupied the same square as Sri Lanka intensified its military offensive which led to the massacre of tens of thousands of Tamils in Mullivaikkal.
