Red and yellow flags were hoisted across Mullaitivu town earlier this week in preparation of Maaveerar Naal - or Great Heroes' Day.
Maaveerar Naal is observed annually on November 27 and marks the death of the first Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadre Lt Shankar in 1982.
Similiar Maaveerar Naal preparations are underway across the Tamil homeland.
