Three more skeletal remains were identified today from the Chemmani mass grave site in Jaffna, bringing the total number of skeletal remains fully excavated to 158, and the number identified to 169.
Excavations at the mass grave site resumed on Monday after an 18-day break.

The Chemmani mass graves have been tied to allegations of extrajudicial killings carried out by the Sri Lankan military, particularly in the mid-1990s during the army's occupation of Jaffna.
Since the excavations began in May 2025, Tamil activists, families of the disappeared and politicians have been calling for accountability and international oversight and monitoring over the excavation process.
