Marking Tamil Heritage Month and Thai Pongal, British Tamils held a vibrant festival in the streets of New Malden within the borough of Kingston.

Last year, Tamil Heritage Month was introduced to Britain's capital city through the London Assembly and is being marked by boroughs across the capital with significant Tamil communities.

Last year also saw the borough of Kingston twinned with the city of Jaffna. Kingston is home to around 12,000 Tamils and the language is the second most spoken in the borough. In 2016 former Northern Provincial Council Chief Minister C V Wigneswaran visited Kingston and signed an official Memorandum of Understanding which twinned the borough with Jaffna, a historic city situated in the Tamil homeland.
