Demining explosion accident in Kilinochchi leaves woman hospitalised

A woman who was injured in an land mine explosion accident has been admitted at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital. The incident occurred while she was working on land mine demining and disposal in Iyakachchi, Kilinochchi, on Friday morning.

The 35-year-old woman and other employees of the Hello Trust were working on demining land mines when the sudden unexpected explosion happened.

The mother of three from Rathnapura, Kilinochchi was injured in the face from the explosion.

Former NPC member M.K. Shivajilingam arrested at his home

Tamil People's National Alliance (TPNA) candidate and former Northern Provincial Council (NPC) member M. K. Shivajilingam has been arrested by Valvettithurai police officials today.

Shivajilingam was arrested at his home in Valvettithurai around 9:30am today. The Valvettithurai police officials claimed they had acted on a court order to arrest Shivajilingam and refused to disclose the reason for his arrest.

Search operation carried out in Mullaitivu seeking buried LTTE weaponry

A search operation to identify weapons used by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) was undertaken on Thursday in Maththalan, Mullaitivu. Among the retrieved documents were logos of the LTTE on fragments of fabric and cloths, Tamil Eelam Map books and children's savings account books for kids.

World Bank demotes Sri Lanka to lower-middle-income country

SLFP alleges Sritharan committed election fraud in 2004

A candidate with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has filed an official complaint against the Tamil National Alliance’s (TNA) Sivagnanam Sritharan this week, claiming that he had committed voter fraud in the 2004 parliamentary elections.

Stanislaus Celestine, a lawyer who is a candidate for the SLFP in the Jaffna District, lodged a formal complaint at the Jaffna District Elections Complaint Unit and with the Sri Lankan police against the former TNA parliamentarian.
