The slain journalist Mylvaganam Nimalarajan was remembered last week to mark the 22nd anniversary of his death across the North-East.

In Vavuniya, the Association of searching the missing persons in Tamil Homeland paid their respects to the murdered journalist.

Nimalarajan contributed to the BBC for over six years, as well as the Tamil daily Virakesari and Sinhala weekly Ravaya.

Tragedy in Toronto as siblings killed in car crash

Relatives of a Tamil family are seeking answers, after a sister and brother were killed and their mother critically injured in Toronto car crash last week.

Pateeran Puvanendran, 21, and Neluxsana Puvanendran, 23, were both killed after their car was hit by a dump truck at the junction of Markham Road and Elson Street on Wednesday October 12.

The siblings were pronounced dead at the scene. Their mother, 52-year-old Srirathy Shanmuganathan, was also in the vehicle, and remains in critical condition.

A series of events took place across Europe to mark Tamil Eelam's Women's Day and the 35th death anniversary of 2nd Lt. Maalathy, the first female fighter of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) to lose her life in the Tamil armed struggle.

Sri Lankan army sergeant arrested after stealing and selling gun from Kilinochchi camp

A sergeant of the Sri Lankan Army Commando Force has been arrested for stealing a T-56 rifle from the occupying Kilinochchi commando camp and reportedly selling it to underworld criminals.

The stolen T-56 weapon was used to shoot at a three-wheeler driver in Ahungalla. The weapon was eventually found on October 17 in a bag that had been thrown in a paddy field in Morontuduwa.

The Colombo Crime Division stated that when checking the serial number of the weapon, it was confirmed that it was the weapon that was stolen from the Kilinochchi commando camp.

Unemployment in Jaffna triples as thousands register as job seekers

The unemployment rate in Jaffna has climbed to 21 percent said the Jaffna District Secretary K. Mahesan on Monday, as he revealed thousands had registered as job seekers in the district.

Mahesan quoted the figures from a Central Bank of Sri Lanka report, which reveals the unemployment rate in the district has almost tripled in the last year alone.
