An event was held in Berlin last month to mark the launch of the latest UN report in Sri Lanka, highlighting the lack of justice and accountability for mass atrocities committed more than 15 years ago.

The event, which was titled ’15 years of Official Peace’, was held in Berlin at the Senate Hall of Humboldt University and was co-hosted by Medico International, ECCHR, and Sri Lanka Advocacy.

Hindu nationalist organisations have increased their presence and activities in Tamil Eelam over recent months, including by supporting the release of a racist Sinhala Buddhist monk.

Sri Lanka’s cabinet of ministers has approved the controversial Commission for Truth, Unity, and Reconciliation (CTUR) bill by incorporating certain amendments to it. 

Posters have sprung up across Mannar, opposing the draft of Sri Lanka’s new fisheries law last week.

The Mannar district youth organization of the National Fisheries Cooperation Movement, operating under the name “Union of Fishermen Organizations,” has taken a stand against it, with posters declaring their determination to defeat a law they believe threatens the livelihoods of those dependent on the fishing industry.

In a bid to hold Tamil politicians accountable, Eelam Tamils have launched a signature campaign demanding that promises made by Members of Parliament during the election period be fulfilled.

The program, organized by the National Fisheries Cooperation Movement, was kicked off on Friday in front of the Jaffna Central Bus Station.

A special task force led by the Sri Lankan President’s Secretary has been formed to accelerate the operations of the Office of Missing Persons (OMP), according to a report in Virakesari, despite the failure of the office to have any tangible process on the issue and years of Tamil protests against it.

Vavuniya Families of the Disappeared held a press briefing in Vavuniya calling on Tamil politicians to quit politics adding that they were appearing to be more like celebrities than actually standing up for a worthy cause including the grievances of the Tamils.

Tamil families of the disappeared in Vavuniya marked 2,700 days of protest over the weekend as their campaign to find out the fate of their forcibly disappeared loved ones continues. 

In a bid to unify Tamil political parties under the umbrella of the Tamil National Alliance, the coalition held its first national conference in Jaffna over the weekend. 

The event was held under the leadership of the General Secretary of the TNP, C.W Wigneswaran. Leader of the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) party S. Shritharan was the chief guest while professor K.R Ganesalingam, the head of the political science department at the Jaffna University was a special guest.
