Jaffna Hindu College marks 25th tribute to murdered Tamil student

A blood donation drive was held at Jaffna Hindu College on 13 July in memory of Sanjeevan, a former student who was killed by the Sri Lankan military on 13 July 2000 in Kaladdy. This year marks the 25th anniversary of his death.

The event took place at the college hostel hall and brought together alumni from various batches, including many who gave their first blood donation through this initiative. The tradition, which began in 2011 through the efforts of the Interact Club, has become a quiet yet consistent act of remembrance. It is held annually to honour Sanjeevan’s life and legacy.

This year’s drive was organised by his 2001 A/L classmates on his remembrance day.

Sanjeevan was a student at Jaffna Hindu College when he was shot dead by Sri Lankan soldiers in Kaladdy.

TamilNet reported at the time that his body was found near the Kaladdy junction, following a spate of military killings in the area during heightened repression in Jaffna. He was returning home after playing soccer at the school ground when he was shot.
