‘A travesty of justice’- International Commission of Jurist's slams Sri Lanka’s ‘toothless inquiry’

 

The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) has slammed Sri Lanka’s newly established commission to investigated human rights violations, describing it as a “travesty of justice”.

The three-member commission which was appointed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on 21 January comes in advance of the UN Human Rights Council’s 46th session and has been described the ICJ as an attempt to “deflect robust action”

Sri Lanka awards China $12 million contract to build renewable energy system in Jaffna

The Sri Lankan government has awarded a contract to a Chinese based joint venture, to install a hybrid renewable energy system in three islands of the coast of Jaffna, at a cost of USD $12 million.

The contract forms a part of the Supporting Electricity Supply Reliability Improvement Project, which is being implemented by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) but is directly funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
