Vavuniya families of the disappeared remember Murugathasan

Vavuniya families of the disappeared remembered Murugathasan Varnakulasingham today as they marked 2185 days of continous protest.

The families laid flowers and lit candles to remember Murugathasan, who self-immolated outside the United Nations Human Rights Council in protest at the inaction of the international community, in the face of the relentless onslaught of the Sri Lankan military on Tamils in the Vanni.

Tamil famiies of the disappeared have been engaged in continous roadside protests across the homeland since 2018, in a campaign to find out the fate of their forcibly disappeared loved ones. Although over 2,000 days have passed since the protests began, successive Sri Lankan regimes have failed to deliver any answers to the families.
