Vavuniya families of the disappeared demand international justice

Tamil families of the disappeared in Vavuniya continued their protest and called upon Tamil politicians to not engage in unconditional discussions with the government but rather to bring their case before the international community.

"While we are crying in the streets searching for our disappeared children, the Rajapaksa family is having fun with their children. Ranil will not solve this issue, we need international jusice. The UN must solve this”.

Responding to claims by Sri Lanka's foreign minister, that those forcibly disappeared were taken by the LTTE, the families vociferously refuted the claim.

“We are looking for the children who were handed over to the army after the war ended, and our children who were taken from the hospital and from their homes by the army.”

Although the families have been searching for justice, successive Sri Lankan governments have failed to address the fate of their disappeared loved ones. Tamil families have repeatedly rejected domestic mechanisms as they have failed to meet any of the demands outlined by the families and have instead appealed to the international community to initiate an international investigation into forced disappearances.

"We will fight till we get justice", said the protestors.
