
2nd Lt Maalathy, the first female Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadre to lose her life in the armed struggle was remembered in Kilinochchi.

The event was organised by the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi's (ITAK) Kilinochchi branch on October 10 to mark 38 years since Maalathy's death. ITAK MP Sivagnanam Shritharan attended the event and spoke about Maalathy's life and the sacrifice she made in the Tamil liberation struggle.


Maalathy was killed at the age of 20 during a confrontation with the Indian Peace Keeping Forces (IPKF) in Jaffna. she was shot in the legs by the IPKF and swallowed cyanide to avoid being captured.
38 years on, the Tamil nation continues to remember her sacrifice.
