Another mass grave unearthed in Tamil Eelam

Several human skeletal remains were uncovered in Muhamalai, alongside uniform believed to belong to an LTTE cadre, as yet another mass grave was discovered in the Tamil homeland.

The grave was found as a group of non-governmental organization workers were engaged in demining activities.

The Kilinochchi magistrate visited the site and conducted an inspection, where he ordered further excavations to be carried. Sri Lankan police have also reportedly started an investigation into the findings.

Several mass graves have been uncovered over the decades, but no one has ever been held accountable for the deaths of the bodies uncovered within them.

Last month the Sri Lankan government refused to fund further excavation work at another mass grave site in Kokkuthoduvai. Other such mass graves mostly in the North-East await closure on its findings. According to some reports, there are at least 33 mass graves across the island.
