Jaffna University students distribute Mullivaikkal Kanji across North-East

Mullivaikkal Kanji was distributed by students from Jaffna University this week to mark 17 years since the Tamil genocide.

Kanji - a porridge of rice, water and salt- was the only food available for Tamils trapped in the No Fire Zones in the final months of the armed conflict.

Students from Jaffna University have been serving kanji to members of the public across the Tamil homeland this week, while also distributing leaflets explaining its significance.

The distribution and sharing of kanji serves as an act of remembrance for the suffering endured by Tamils at the hands of the Sri Lankan government during the final months of the armed conflict in 2009.
