Communities came together across the Tamil homeland this week to honour families of fallen fighters, as preparations for Maaveerar Naal continue at pace. At cemeteries razed by the Sri Lankan military, town halls and village grounds, parents, spouses, children and siblings were welcomed, thanked and recognised for the sacrifices of their loved ones. Tree saplings in memory of the fallen were presented to families at every event.
Mullaitivu - Moongilaaru - 16/11/2025
A ceremony to honour families of the fallen in the Moongilaaru area of Mullaitivu took place at the Cooperative Hall last Sunday. Families were garlanded and brought to the venue in a procession through the town. Participants then lit lamps and offered flowers in memory of their loved ones, before being presented with tree saplings.



Mullaitivu - Suthanthirapuram - 18/11/2025
Families of Great Heroes from Udaiyaarkattu and Suthanthirapuram Iruttumadhu were honoured at the Cooperative Hall in Suthanthirapuram. The event began with the lighting of the Flame of Sacrifice by a mother who had lost three children. Children of fallen fighters then garlanded a symbolic memorial, and floral tributes were inaugurated by a father of two heroes. Over 125 people attended the event.



Mullaitivu - Mallaavi - 19/11/2025
Families of Great Heroes from the Mallavi area of Mullaitivu assembled at a specially built venue after being brought in procession through the town. More than 700 family members were honoured at this emotional event recognising the sacrifices made in the Tamil armed struggle against Sri Lanka.




Amparai - Thirukkovil - 20/11/2025
Over 150 people took part in the event held at the Methodist Hall in Thirukkovil. It began with the garlanding of a symbolic memorial by the mother of two fallen fighters. Former TNPF MP S. Gajendran, religious leaders, former fighters and families of fallen fighters were in attendance.



Batticaloa - Paduvaankarai - 21/11/2025
The Cultural Hall in Manmunai, Batticaloa, hosted a large event on Friday, where nearly 500 parents of Great Heroes were honoured.


Kilinochchi - Uruththirapuram - 21/11/2025
Hundreds of families of fallen fighters were honoured in Uruththirapuram, Kilinochchi, on Friday.





Trincomalee Town - 22/11/2025
Two hundred parents of fallen heroes from Aalankulam, Eachchantheevu, Saambaltheevu, Kappaltheevu, Salappaiyaaru, Nilaaveli, Varothaya Nagar, Iluppaikkulam, Periyakulam and Kumburuppitti were honoured at an event held in Trincomalee town yesterday.



Mullivaikkal - 22/11/2025
Mullivaikkal, the site of the final battle and of the Tamil genocide, hosted hundreds of families of fallen fighters as they were honoured for the sacrifices of their loved ones. The event included an address on bravery and sacrifice delivered by former fighter Anbarasan.



Vavuniya Town - 23/11/2025
The ITAK office in Vavuniya hosted an event where hundreds gathered to pay tribute to the fallen and honour their families. The garlanding of the memorial stone and the lighting of the Flame of Sacrifice were conducted by two proud mothers, each of whom had lost four children in the Tamil armed struggle against Sri Lanka.



Batticaloa, Vaakarai - 23/11/2025
Over 200 parents of fallen fighters were honoured in Vaakarai, Batticaloa, at a specially constructed venue today. Parents and families placed garlands and lit memorial lamps, before joining former fighters, religious dignitaries, civil society representatives and local residents for lunch and the presentation of tree saplings.



Jaffna, Mallaakam - 23/11/2025
ITAK MP Gajendrakumar Ponnampalam addressed over 150 parents of Great Heroes at Mallakam College in Jaffna, as they were honoured for the sacrifices of their loved ones in the pursuit of freedom for Eelam Tamils.


Mullaitivu - 23/11/2025
Around 400 parents of fallen fighters were present today at the event held in their honour at the Mullaitivu District Secretariat Hall. The ceremony began with the lighting of the Flame of Sacrifice by a parent who had lost three children in the defence of the Tamil homeland, while a common garland was placed around a memorial by another parent who also gave three children to the Tamil struggle for freedom.
