A protest in Mannar has called for an irrevocable, united model of power-sharing for the merged Northern and Eastern provinces, as part of an ongoing 100-day campaign highlighting Tamil political aspirations.
The demonstration, held on 7 August in Andhoniyarpuram, Manthai West, marked the seventh day of the campaign and the third consecutive annual initiative organised by the North-East Coordinating Committee.
The committee has long advocated for irreversible, united power-sharing in a merged North-East as the only political arrangement capable of meeting Tamil demands for self-determination.
Participants at the protest rallied under a unified slogan: “Only a united model of power-sharing can fulfil the political aspirations of the Tamil people.”
Organisers said the aim was to draw renewed national and international attention to the urgent need for a political settlement that guarantees the rights of Tamils.
The campaign will continue for 100 days, rotating across all eight districts of the Northern and Eastern provinces.
