Questions of corruption as over 17 million rupees uncovered in Rajapaksa's residence

Following the breach of the Presidential residence yesterday, a video has circulated showing protesters recovering an estimated Rs. 17,850,000 in the President's residence.

The money recovered by activists of the Young Journalists Association (YJA) has since been handed over to the Superintendent of Police. However, concerns have been raised over a lack of transparency by the Police with continued fears that the money handed to senior police is being distributed to corrupt politicians.

YJA activists have claimed that their handover of the money has not been covered by the media whilst the police were quick to report "looting" following the events on May 9th.
