UN Special Rapporteur on minority issues meets with TNA

The UN Special Rapporteur on minority issues Rita Izsák-Ndiaye met with the leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), R Sampanthan on Wednesday in the parliament complex in Colombo.

Ms Izsák-Ndiaye, who is currently on a visit of the island, last week met with the Northern Provincial Council, where she was told of the ongoing concerns of the Tamil people including  the military occupation of land in the North-East and the continued detention of political prisoners.

Speaking in Geneva ahead of her visit, Ms Izsák-Ndiaye had said, "my visit is intended to assist the Government and the Sri Lankan society at large in identifying challenges and solutions, as well as sharing experiences at this critical time for Sri Lanka."
