Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena held a meeting with various media organisations in Colombo on Tuesday, where he warned them that the behaviour of some organisations was "unsatisfactory".
Mr Sirisena went on to state that media on the island must "be responsible and respect the freedom they enjoy under the present government," reports ColomboPage.
The Sri Lankan president went on to express "disappointment that certain media institutions abuse that freedom and publish false reports containing baseless allegations and criticisms, even about him without making any investigations".
Earlier this year Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe also warned media on the island “over their conduct” and stated he was ready to “take them on if they do not correct themselves”.
