Hundreds of thousands came out to march in Barcelona on Friday, in support of independence for Catalan.
Endorsing the pro-indepedence's campaign, "Let's start building a new country", Catalans poured out onto the streets waving the national flag.
The rally, marking Catalan's national day, was organised by a coalition of pro-independence groups from both ends of the political spectrum.
Around 80 percent of the 2.2 million voters called for secession in an unofficial referendum on independence that was rejected by the Spanish government in November last year.
