Modi to visit China next week

The Indian president, Narendra Modi is to visit China next week, the foreign ministry said on Tuesday, in his visit trip since taking office, reports Reuters.

The visit, which will take place from May 14 to 16, will include visits to Xian, Beijing and Shanghai, and will be followed by visits to Mongolia and South Korea. He is expected to look to encourage trade and business between the two countries.

On Modi, Mr Modi launched himself on China's social media site, Weibo.

"Hello China! Looking forward to interacting with Chinese friends through Weibo," read his first post, reported TOI, adding that by the course of the day Mr Modi had over 26,000 followers.

The second post read:

"I wish everyone happiness on Buddha's birthday. Today we remember Buddha ideals and commands. He preached the ideas of harmony and brotherhood and had a vision of a peaceful world. Buddism is a unifying force across Asian countries. It can be one form of strong cohesion as the world enters the Asian era".
