Thousands demonstrate in Tunisia in anti-terrorism march

Thousands of demonstrators marched to the Bardo museum in Tunisia chanting anti-terror slogans, and waving posters that included phrases such as “We are Bardo” and “Tunisia is Free! Terrorism out!” on Sunday.

The museum was the site of a terror attack two weeks ago, resulting in the deaths of 21 tourists and one Tunisian.

Many world leaders were in attendance at a ceremony at the museum, including French President Francoise Hollande and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, reports the BBC.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Hollande, said,

“We had four French citizens killed there, victims of terrorism, so it was necessary to participate in this march”

Only hours before the march Tunisian authorities announced that they had killed the alleged leader of the attack, Lokman Abu Sakhra, in a raid conducted by the government. The Tunisian authorities claimed to have arrested dozens of suspects relating to the attack in the past week.

Addressing the ceremony, Tunisian president Beji Caid Essebsi said,

"The Tunisian people proved today that they do not bow to terrorism, and that as one man and one woman, they defend the nation. When Tunisia is targeted, the whole nation stands as one."
