Australian PM vows to confront Putin on MH17 downing

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott pledged to confront Russian President Vladimir Putin over the shooting down of a Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 over Eastern Ukraine in July.

298 passengers, including 38 Australians were killed in the attack, with Abbott saying they were "murdered with Russian support".

"I'm going to shirt-front Mr Putin – you bet I am. I am going to be saying to Mr Putin 'Australians were murdered'," said Abbott.

“Shirt-front” is an Australian Rules football term to aggressively knock an opponent to the floor.

Abbott went on to tell reporters,

“We accept that you didn’t want this to happen, but we now demand that you fully co-operate with the criminal investigation, and if the criminal investigation identifies suspects that you have some influence over, they’ve got to be produced and justice has got to be done.”

Abbott is set to meet Putin at the G20 meeting in Brisbane in November.
