Peacekeeping clashes in CAR leave 2 demonstrators dead

At least two people died in a clash between protesters and African Union peacekeepers from the Burundian military during a second day of demonstrations against an attack on a Church in the capital of the Central African Republic, reports Reuters.

“There were some armed demonstrators and they attacked the Burundian base. The Burundians responded with live fire and there were two people killed and two wounded amongst the assailants,” a spokesman for the African Union mission (MISCA), told Reuters.

The demonstrators claimed that they were all unarmed. The demonstrators had gathered outside the headquarters of the UN mission in Bangui, to demand the withdrawal of Burundian troops, who they accuse of favoring one side in the sectarian conflict.
