8 more schoolgirls abducted in Nigeria, US pledges assistance

Gunmen suspected of being from the militant group Boko Haram kidnapped 8 from a village in north-eastern Nigeria, reports Reuters.

Lazarus Musa, a resident in the village of Warabe, said the armed men looted the village whilst firing their guns indiscriminately.

“They were many and all of them carried guns. They came in two vehicles in army colour. They started shooting in our village,” Musa told Reuters.

The kidnappings come as Nigerian president pledged to rescue the school-girls that were kidnapped last month.

The US and UK today, condemned the last months abductions and pledged to support Nigeria in rescuing the victims, reports Aljazeera.

Pledging assistance to the Nigerian government, the US Secretary of State John Kerry said,  ‘the kidnapping of hundreds of children by Boko Haram is an unconscionable crime, and we will do everything possible to support Nigerian government to return these young women to their homes.”

The US have instructed the FBI to assist in resolving the abduction issues in Nigeria, reports the
International Business Times.
