Nigeria seeks help from world powers to address security issues, protesters calling for action arrested

The Nigerian President broke his silence on the kidnapping of hundreds of school girls by the suspected militants Boko Haram, reports the BBC.
“We promise that wherever they are we will surely get them out,” said President Goodluck Jonathan.

The president noted that he had held discussions with several world powers including the US, France, Britain and China who were all willing to help with security issues in Nigeria.
“We are talking to countries we think can help us out. The United States is number one. I have talked to President Obama at least twice,” he said.
Meanwhile a leader of the protests calling for the government to do more to find the abducted girls was arrested by government authorities reports The Guardian.

A presidential spokesperson said that the protester, Naomi Mutah Nyadar had been detained over allegations of falsely claiming to be a mother of the abducted.

“We are begging them to save out daughter. Instead of taking steps to rescue them they are jailing us,” said a protestor responding to the government statement on the arrest.
