Pro-Russian protesters storm 3 cities in eastern Ukraine

Pro-Russian protesters in eastern Ukraine yielded arms in one city and declared a separatist republic in another, as protests broke out in several eastern cities today.

Officials in Kiev told Reuters that the overnight seizure of public buildings in three eastern Ukrainian cities was a repeat of events in Crimea that resulted in the annexation of Crimea.

The Ukrainian Prime Minister, Arseny Yatseniuk, alleged that the protests where orchestrated by Russia, stating,

“An anti-Ukrainian plan is being put into operation .. under which foreign troops will cross the border and seize the territory of the country. We will not allow this.”

The US Secretary of State John Kerry, in response to the protests, told the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, that Washington was observing events in eastern Ukraine and warned that Russian intervention would result in further costs for Russia.
