A special prayer service was held for victims of the Mannar mass grave earlier this week, as dozens came to mourn and pray in remembrance.

Family members of the disappeared gathered at the Thirukketheeswaram Temple, joined by members of the Northern Provincial Council, for the special service. It was held to pray for the peaceful passage of the dozens of victims being unearthed from the mass grave, who were believed to have been murdered.

Last month the Bishop of Mannar reported that many of the skulls discovered, of both children and adults, had gunshot wounds.

The 30th excavation of the mass grave took place on Sunday, with 2 more skeletal remains being found.

The total number of bodies which have been discovered is now 81.
