Ukrainian parliament impeaches President

A historic day in Ukrainian parliament, saw a parliamentary vote impeach President Viktor Yanukovych of his powers and order the release of the imprisoned former Prime Minister, Yulia Tymoshenko.

Speaking to the protestors after being released from prison this evening, the former Prime Minister, Tymoshenko, said,

“This is your victory because no politician, no diplomat could do what you have done, you have removed this caner from the country. Every bullet that killed those people was a bullet in the heart of all of us. You have to remember their faces, you have their faces before your eyes and remember their sacrifices.”

She further added,

“Now you have the right to rule this country and decide for this country.”

The British foreign secretary, William Hague, said today that the UK and its European Union allies, would support a new government when it was formed and urged Ukrainian officials to continue working together.
