Palestinian man killed by Israeli soldiers

Israeli troops have shot and killed a Palestinian man in the occupied territory of the West Bank.

22 year old Mohammed Mubarak was unarmed and had been harassed by the soldiers who forced him to remove his clothes, witnesses told AFP news agency.

The Palestinian Red Cross said Mubarak was found with three bullet wounds to his back.

The Israeli military claimed the labourer, from a refugee camp near Ramallah, was a “terrorist” and that they opened fire only after he fired a gun.

A spokesperson said its soldiers felt "an imminent threat to their lives", adding that a weapon and 12 bullet casings were recovered.

According to Israeli human rights group B’Tselem, the number of Palestinians in the West Bank killed by Israeli forces hit a 5-year high in 2013, at 27 fatalities, 3 times as many as in the year before.
