Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad warned Turkey that they will ‘pay a heavy price’ for supporting ‘terrorism’, following Turkey’s continued support for Syria’s armed opposition.
Speaking in an interview on Turkish TV, Assad said,
"It is not possible to put terrorism in your pocket and use it as a card because it is like a scorpion which won't hesitate to sting you at the first opportunity,"
"In the near future, these terrorists will have an impact on Turkey and Turkey will pay a heavy price for it."
Turkey, NATO’s second largest deployable force, has been a fierce critic of the Assad regime and has openly called for greater support for the Syrian opposition.
Assad went on to mull his thoughts on future elections in war torn Syria, commenting,
“If I have a feeling that the Syrian people want me to be president . . . I will run for the post. If the answer is no, I will not run and I don’t see a problem in that.”
