The Taliban in Pakistan has outlined conditions for talks to begin, demanding that the Pakistan government release Taliban prisoners and being withdrawing its troops from the tribal region on the Afghanistan border, as a prerequisite for taking part in talks.
The news comes as a high-ranking Pakistani General was killed in a roadside bomb along with two other soldiers on Sunday. The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the killing of Major General Sanaullah Khan, said the Pakistani army.
The Pakistani Taliban's spokesperson, Shahidullah Shahid said on Sunday that the leadership council has determined there was a need for confidence building measures.

“The Taliban have been deceived in the past in the name of peace, so the government will have to take some steps before the start of talks to assure the Taliban that the government is serious about the peace process."
"If the government does not take these two steps, the peace process cannot go forward."
