Sinhala Buddhist orgs attack TNA for 'pro-LTTE agenda'

Several Buddhist organisations are planning to take legal action against the Tamil National Alliance's 'manifesto' in the run up to the Northern Provincial Council elections.

The General Secretary of the Buddhist organisation Ravana Balya, Itthekande Saddhatissa, outlined that even in the event of a TNA victory in the elections, the councillors would not be allowed to take oath at parliament because the TNA manifesto violated the Sri Lankan constitution.  Saddhatissa further outlined that legal proceedings would be taken on the TNA's violation of the provision of the country's territorial integrity, which was included in the 1978 constitution.

Political Party's across Sri Lanka have also expressed their discontent with the TNA's election manifesto.

THE General Secretary of the Communist Party, Minister D.E.W Gunasekara, and Leader of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP), Minister Tissa Vitarana, expressed dissatisfaction over the nature of the TNA manifesto at press conferences in Jaffna.

Vitarana said,

" The TNA's election manifesto reflects the expectations of the pro-LTTE Tamil Diaspora abroad. The TNA is using the NPC as a forum to spearhead its agenda for separatism. The TNA manifesto very clearly indicates that it is not reflecting on the post-war development activities in the North."
