The speaker at the Pan-African Parliament, Bethel Amadi, called for the need to secure the Saharawi people's right to self-determination.
Addressing the parliamentary session in South Africa on Tuesday, Amadi said:
"The suffering of the Saharawi people is something to be touched upon heavily by Africans, and to take a position about the serious human rights situation in Western Sahara which would stop the suffering of the Saharawi people, and put an end to violations of the Moroccan serious crimes against the Sahrawi people rights."
Praising the work of Saharawi human rights activists for highlighting the plight of the Western Sahara people to the rest of the world, Amadi said the Pan-African parliament supported their call for independence.
