The United States Treasury Department sanctioned four senior Syrian officials, including the Syrian Defence, Justice , Industry and Health ministers.
The treasury also pledged sanctions on the state-run airline, Syrian Arab Airlines, which it said was involved in transporting ammunition to Bashar al-Assad’s regime. A Privately owned Television broadcaster, Al-Dunya Television, was also blacklisted for providing services to the Syrian regime.
The latest additions to the sanctions on Syria come after the U.S targeted the regimes central bank and oil companies, as well as over a 100 individuals and organisations.
Treasury Undersecretary for Terrorism and Financial intelligence, David Cohen, outlined the U.S intention to further pressure the Syrian government, stating,
“Treasury will continue to use all the tools at our disposal to expose and disrupt financial networks of those responsible for the Syrian government's egregious campaign to supress the people.”
