Minister of External Affairs of India, S. Jaishankar, is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka for January 19-20.
According to officials, the visit will consist of a full review of bilateral ties.
The visit also comes amidst efforts by the Sri Lankan government to secure "written financial assurances" from India and China. The island needs to get these assurances to make progress on a bailout plan with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The two day visit follows a visit from the ministerial delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Sri Lanka's three largest creditors include China, India and Japan. The Sri Lankan government stated that to set its economy on a path to recovery it hopes to borrow additional money once the IMF programme kicks in.
Jaishankar also plans on discussing trade and transit ties with Sri Lanka during his visit. New Delhi and Colombo are currently discussing ferry connectivity. These talks come after the restart of Chennai-Jaffna flights last month.
