Students and family members gathered to remember the Mullaitivu Ayyankkulam massacre in which 6 students and 2 healthcare workers were killed by the Sri Lankan army.
On November 27, 2007, 8 people, including six students and two staff, were killed in a claymore attack on an ambulance by the Sri Lankan army Deep Penetration Unit (DPU) in Ayyankulam area of Mullaitivu.
Due to this attack by the army, the schoolgirls Nagaratnam Pradeepa (16), Nagaratnam Madikaran (15), Nithyanandhan Nidarsana (13), Karunakaran Kausika (15), Chandrasekharam Tiroja (16) Aumurasha Ajitnath (17) and health workers Sanmugavadivel Sagunthaladevi (19) and Marimuthu Krishnaveni (21) were killed.
The remembrance event was organised alongside students and family members. The public flame was lit by the father of Chandrasekharam Tirosa, while other relatives paid tribute.
