The Canadian Tamil Women’s Organization hosted a socially distanced Car rally in Toronto, “demanding Canadian and international action on Sri Lanka and justice for Tamil Genocide.”
The protest took place on International Women’s Day (IWD), and protestors gathered in Markham and Brampton with a final destination of Queens Park in Toronto, the Ontario Legislative Building site that houses the Legislative assembly of Ontario.
Protestors adorned their cars with signs and flags and circled the Ontario Legislative Building to raise awareness and voice their demands.
Hundreds of cars were seen displaying signs which stated, “UN: Tamil’s demand justice for #TamilGenocide” as well as “on-going violation against Tamil woman by Sri Lankan Government.”

In Mullaitivu, Jaffna and Vavuniya, Tamil families of the disappeared marked IWD by holding protests to demand justice for their disappeared loved ones and the human rights abuses perpetrated against Tamil women by the Sri Lankan government.
