The Indian government has reportedly "shared information" with Britain, in an attempt to ensure that the UK upholds the ban on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) as a terrorist organisation.
In response to a question from WION, Acting British High Commissioner to India Jan Thompson said that though they “can't comment on individual conversations we had... we had detailed discussion on a range of issues including around this type of issue with Indian govt in a different format”.
The report comes after a landmark judgement from Britain’s Proscribed Organisations Appeal Commission, which found that the UK Home Office decision to keep the LTTE proscribed as a terrorist organisation was “flawed” and unlawful.
Sri Lanka’s prime minister and accused war criminal Mahinda Rajapaksa also called on British authorities to ensure a ban was kept on the organisation, claiming the LTTE was “very active”, whilst Sri Lanka’s High Commission in London has been reportedly been busy lobbying the British government.
