P S M Charles, has been appointed as the Governor of the Northern Province and took her oaths before President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today.
In 2017, Ms Charles was appointed as the Director General of the Sri Lanka Customs Department on the recommendation of previous Minister of Finance and Mass Media, Mangala Samaraweera.
Ms Charles has over 26 years experience of service in the public sector and has perviously served as the Batticaloa Government Agent (GA) and as the Vavuniya GA.
In an interview with The New Humanitarian following the end of the armed conflict in 2009, Ms Charles who was the GA and District Secretary for Vavuniya at the time, shared her take on the return process of internally displaced persons (IDPs), the conditions of the camps and the 2009 government's plans to return.
