FR application filed seeking withdrawal from UNHRC resolution

<p>A Fundamental Rights application was filed in Sri Lanka's Supreme Court, seeking the government to withdraw from the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC)&nbsp;resolution 30/1 that it co-sponsored in 2015.</p> <p>The application was filed by the Truth Seekers Movement, who&nbsp;claim&nbsp;that by co-sponsoring resolution 30/1, Sri Lanka has allowed for several activities to take place which are inconsistent with the Constitution.&nbsp;</p> <p>Resolution 30/1 which was co-sponsored in 2015 under Sirisena's administration,&nbsp;mandates foreign judges to participate in an accountability mechanism to examine the crimes committed at the end of the armed conflict.</p> <p>The Petitioner states adding that as long as this remains in force the Petitioner and every citizen of Sri Lanka would be subject to the jurisdiction of a foreign judicial mechanism.</p> <p>The Petitioner wants the Supreme Court to declare that by co-sponsoring this resolution, the Constitution and the sovereignty of the people of Sri Lanka has been violated. Therefore, the state should take measures to withdraw from the resolution.&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
