The Sri Lankan military showed no sign of scaling back its involvement in civil life in the North-East this month, after troops paid a visit to an adult care home in Jaffna last month, where they hosted a party for the “inmates”, according to an official military website.
Major Geethika Rankotge, Commanding Officer of the 7 SLAWC, organised the event which was undertaken by female troops from the Sri Lankan army.

“Inmates were served refreshments and entertained with Calypso music,” said the military.

The military organised event comes amidst sustained criticism of the Sri Lankan security forces over its involvement in civilian activities. Despite pledges to demilitarise the North-East, military engagement in civilian life continues.
