The UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Iraq, Lisa Grande, warned that the recent intensifying of Islamic State insurgents, could trigger a worsening humanitarian crisis,.
Speaking to Reuters, Ms Grande said,
“We know that in the next couple of months the humanitarian situation is only going to get worse. Right now our biggest problem is financing; We’re running out of money.”
The UN official added that the number of Iraqis requiring humanitarian assistance could reach 10 million by the end of the year.
At least three million people have been displaced with in Iraq since the start of 2014 with another 1.5 million expected to be displaced by the end of 2015.
