US Congress members Raja Krishnamoorthi and Deborah Ross have expressed their support for an independent investigation into the Chemmani mass grave, where 240 skeletal remains have been identified.
Posting on X, US Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, representative for Illinois's 8th Congressional District, said that "justice for the victims and the disappeared demands an independent investigation and real accountability."

Congresswoman Deborah Ross, representative for North Carolina's 2nd Congressional District, said she continues to "support Tamil demands" for justice and accountability following the "gruesome" discovery of the Chemmani mass grave.

In February 2025, skeletal remains were discovered by workers during construction work near a Hindu cemetery in Chemmani, Jaffna. Since excavations began earlier this year, a total of 240 skeletal remains have been identified as of September 6.
Tamil activists, civil society groups and politicians have been calling for an international investigation into the mass grave site.
