Two Tamil teenagers were hospitalised after they were beaten by allegedly drunk Sri Lankan police officers in Mullaitivu on Friday.
The two boys aged 15 and 17 sought treatment at Mullaitivu District General hospital after three Sri Lankan police officers questioned and beat both boys while they were walking through Puthukudiyirippu.
One of the teenagers has a fractured thumb while the other teenager sustained injuries all over his body from the attack.
The parents of the teenagers said their sons were returning home after going to a friend's birthday party when the Sri Lankan policemen stopped the boys to question where they were going and if they had been smoking cannabis. The parents alleged that the police officers were drunk and also took away the mobile phone of one of the teenagers.
The parents have filed a complaint to the Mullaitivu Assistant Superintendent of Police and also intend to file a complaint at the Sri Lankan Human Rights Commission's Jaffna office.
