Sri Lankan soldier turned Buddhist monk in Jaffna  to preach to troops

A former Major General in the Sri Lankan army who was accused of murder and torture and has since been ordained as a Buddhist monk was in Jaffna this week, delivering a lecture to Sri Lankan soldiers.

Major General Ananda Weerasekara, the former Commanding Officer of the North Central Province, spoke to troops in Jaffna on “what is expected from an Officer in the military and religious perspectives,” reports an official military website.

The retired general is accused of torture and murder of thousands during the 1987 JVP insurrection in the South.
